Keay upset by SCB Decision
Redcar SG Petch Bears are bewildered by last nights declaration by the Speedway Control Bureau to award Glasgow the match and 4 league points after last week’s abandoned league match and the result – a 32-24 victory for the Tigers – will stand.
The meeting was halted in controversial circumstances after a serious crash caused damage to the safety fence and medical concerns over the health of Redcar rider Coty Garcia.
Redcar promoter Kevin Keay, was informed of the decision via an e-mail from the head of the Speedway Control Bureau
“I was horrified by the verdict – I’m absolutely shocked by Neil Vatcher’s latest interpretation of the rules.
“On Thursday night he told the Glasgow management and the referee that the meeting would have to be rerun and there were no grounds for an appeal.
“Four days later he has reversed his decision and awarded the match to Glasgow. What’s changed in that time?
I’m astonished!
The club will be seeking legal advice before deciding on a course of action.
“I’m trying to bring new people into speedway, Our crowds are up by 20% which includes fans new to speedway then this decision comes along and they are all left scratching their heads. The authorities don’t appear to realise what harm they cause with decisions like that. I’m stood here at the track working in the pouring rain and it makes me wonder why I’m doing this? Is all the time and effort I am putting in worth it?
“I love this sport to bits but some times it just shoots itself in the foot,
I’m left thinking what are my crowds going to be like next week? I fear for the club if attendances start dropping back to last seasons figures.
This decision has repercussions for the whole sport .”
For now the club has to fight on and has another tough fixture against Peterborough on Thursday. Jonas B. Andersen returns to the side but Danny Ayres is once again ruled out through injury and Berwick’s Liam Carr will deputise.
” I appeal for the Bears fans to turn up in numbers and cheer the lads on against a strong Panthers side , we will not let one decision stop what we are trying to achieve at this club”.
