Parr: We have a great chance!
Redcar team manager, Gavin Parr, believes the Redcar “Agilia” Bears “have as good a chance as anybody” as they travel north to Scotland this evening to take on the Glasgow Tigers in the Cab Direct Championship with tapes up at 7:30.
Parr knows the Bears have the ability to go to Glasgow and win, having already secured a 42-48 success at Ashfield this season, “ The way Connor (Bailey) and Danyon (Hume) went at Glasgow last time means they will be fearing us turning up which is always a good thing! Although, this time I think the track will be different to our previous visit. I think the track will be as slick and as hard as possible but at the end of the day, that’s their prerogative. Nevertheless, we will be going there full of confidence after our last performance at Ashfield! ”
However, Parr and the promotion have been rocked by the injury to Jake Mulford, with the Bears reserve suffering a broken ankle whilst racing in France, “ It’s a huge loss for us, Jake has been riding so well for us recently, scoring 6/7 points a match and with him being on a 3.14 average it’s the biggest loss I think we could have suffered apart from losing our number 1.”
Luke Harrison will deputise for the stricken Mulford against Glasgow with Parr keen to see what the Workington starlet has to offer at Cab Direct Championship level, “ We are going to give Luke Harrison a go against Glasgow. Luke and his Dad are very keen to test Championship level speedway and after Glasgow we will reassess our options for our upcoming fixtures.”
With the Bears racing their first match of July this evening, new averages come into effect with Connor Bailey moving back into the main body whilst Jason Edwards drops to reserve with Parr believing both riders will change positions again as the season progresses, “ Connor and Jason are very similar abilities at the moment and I think you will see them swapping positions every month or at least every other month! It’s certainly not a bad thing as Jason will theoretically get some slightly easier races whilst also having the opportunity to build his confidence whilst he’s at reserve.”
The former Cubs manager has also elected to tweak the main body riding order for this meeting with ex Tiger Connor Bailey moving to number 3 whilst Erik Riss slots in at 4, “ Connor can certainly hold his own at 3 at Glasgow and it gives Erik heat 14 which I think is an advantage for us.”
Glasgow track a full 1-7 as they look to avenge their late May defeat to the Bears. Chris Harris will be a dangerman for the Bears as the British legend is yet to score below double figures when a meeting has ran it’s full 15 heats at Ashfield this season. Meanwhile, Redcar draft in the aforementioned Luke Harrison who makes his debut at 2nd tier level with Jason Edwards partnering the 16 year old at reserve.
