Bears swoop for Scott
REDCAR have swooped to sign Jody Scott in a bid to bolster the scoring power from reserve.
The young British prospect will replace Tom Spencer in a new partnership with Ace Pijper.
Scott, 18, will make his debut against Oxford in the Cab Direct Championship on May 30.
Agilia Bears co-promoter Jamie Swales admits it was a tough decision. He revealed: “As a rule, we are not a club who like to let riders go.
“Tom is a great lad and has given 100 per cent. He also took a big knock recently. We would like to thank him for his efforts for Redcar.
“But at this moment we feel he is struggling to adapt to the step up to Championship level.
“We’d rather give someone else a chance rather than see his confidence take a further battering.”
Scott next races in the British Under-21 Championship at Glasgow on Sunday and is naturally delighted with the move to the ECCO Arena.
He said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be signed for Redcar, it’s a track I’ve always liked and I’m sure I’ll get on all right there.
“I’ve done a few guest bookings for them recently and I’ve loved it and I can’t wait to get started.
“Redcar are obviously a really strong team as well. There’s loads of experience with two British Champions in Danny King and Charles Wright. Plus Erik Riss who is in great form.
“Then there’s the likes of Jason Edwards, Jake Mulford and Ace Pijper. It’s a really good mix of youth and experience and I believe I can learn so much.
“Last year helped me out a lot with Oxford giving me some opportunities.
“That was to help me prepare for a chance like this. I’ve had some guest bookings this year and got my first away win.
“It’s all a positive and I’ll just go out there and have fun and try to score some points in a winning team.”
