REDCAR heat leader Danny King believes his “Agilia” Bears side are settling into the 2025 campaign really well on the eve of Redcar’s BSN Series clash against Workington tomorrow night at the ECCO Arena with tapes up at 19:30. 

King, who has scored paid 35 from his three outings as a Bear this season is enthused by his side’s start to the season. King said, “ We are settling really well as a side, there’s a long way to go but I’m really pleased with the early signs from the boys, that’s for sure.”

The Brit, who will lineup at Belle Vue for the British Final on May 12th, is hoping for a repeat of Redcar’s superb 57-32 win over Scunthorpe against the Comets. King said, “ Obviously that’s the plan but a repeat will be tough. We all rode well last week so we are hoping that continues.” 

The veteran, who began his career in 2001, also heaped praise on the Redcar reserves, Ace Pijper and Tom Spencer. King commented, “ I was really impressed with Ace last week, some of the moves he pulled off, especially in heat 12, were superb. Tom is also doing really well, he isn‘t afraid to mix it up and he’s settling in really well.”

Despite moving to number five tomorrow night due to the absence of Erik Riss, King is happy with how he and Jason Edwards have gelled in the Bears middle order. King explained, “It makes a difference when you’ve got two riders who ride very different parts of the track. so we are covering the track well. Jason likes that inside line. I like that outside. It’s been good for Jason as well, he gets to ride with me, which he’s never done before.”

Redcar bring in ex-Bear Anders Rowe to guest in place of the Grand Prix bound Erik Riss. Meanwhile, the visitors will be racing in their first fixture of the season with the exciting Tate Zischke looking to build on an exciting first year with the Comets in 2024.”

OXFORD secured a 48-42 win in the WSRA National League after a hard fought battle against the Middlesbrough “Heat Floors” Tigers powered by “STS” at Sandy Lane. Jody Scott (11+1) and Darryl Ritchings (10+2) both shone for Oxford whilst guest Cooper Rushen hit 12 for the Tigers. 

After heat one was re-run after Scott came to grief on the opening bends, the Tigers looked set for a shared opener as Rushen led, until the youngster suffered an engine failure, which saw both Chargers take 1st and 2nd respectively and take a 5-1. 

After a shared heat two won by Oxford reserve Senna Summers, the Tigers hit back with a 4-2 in heat three. Ace Pijper started his afternoon with a heat win, and with his brother Stene Pijper in 3rd, Middlesbrough were back within two points in the early stages. 

However, heat four saw the hosts strike a 5-1 as Summers made it two wins from two, and with Darryl Ritchings passing Danny Phillips in the early stages, Oxford had grabbed the initiative on home shale. 

Nevertheless, the Tigers showed no signs of backing down and they hit back in heat five with a 5-1 as Rushen recovered from his mechanical problems to notch his first win of the afternoon, and with Tom Spencer in 2nd, Middlesbrough were back within two of Oxford. 

The initial staging of heat six saw Phillips excluded, leaving Ben Rathbone as the sole Tiger. The second staging saw Jody Scott and Jacob Clouting outgate Rathbone, and with the Tigers reserve unable to pass either Charger, Oxford’s six point lead was re-established. 

After the Pijper brothers packed the minor placings in a heat seven won by Ritchings, Middlesbrough recorded their 3rd heat advantage in heat eight after Clouting was excluded from the original staging after crashing. The re-run saw Rushen win, and with Kai Ward 3rd, Middlesbrough were within striking distance of Oxford at 26-22. 

However, Oxford’s six point lead was re-established as Ashton Vale won heat nine, but with Phillips passing Arran Butcher, the Middlesbrough skipper limited the damage to a 4-2. 

The Chargers then began to pull away from the Tigers as Scott remained undefeated by a Tiger to win heat 10, and with Clouting 3rd, the hosts had a stranglehold on proceedings. 

After the exceptional Rushen won a shared heat 11, the Tigers sent shockwaves through the Chargers camp with a heat 12 5-1 as Ace Pijper won, and with the fast improving Ward fending off Butcher for 2nd, Middlesbrough had reduced the arrears to 38-34.  

However, heat 13 saw Oxford’s eight point lead restored as Scott won an awarded race as Spencer fell whilst 4th, and with Ritchings 2nd, the Chargers were on the verge of victory. 

The penultimate race saw Oxford confirm victory in what looked set to be a shared race after Max Broadhurst fell and remounted at the back. However, as Ward shed a chain whilst in 3rd, Broadhurst claimed 3rd, and with Vale taking the win, Oxford had secured their 6th heat advantage and two WSRA National League points. 

The final race saw Rushen racked up his 4th win of the afternoon, and with Ace Pijper second, Middlesbrough hit their 5th heat advantage, albeit in vain.

Tigers team boss Brian Turner has challenged his Tigers side to keep pushing on. The “Heat Floors” Tigers powered by “STS” travel to Oxford this afternoon (3pm) for the side’s 3rd away fixture of the WSRA National League season. 

Turner, in his debut year as team boss, has seen positive signs from the Tigers. Turner said, “We have been close and took both Edinburgh and Scunthorpe to the wire, so if we can keep learning from these matches, we can keep improving meeting by meeting.”

Turner is excited about the problems Ace and Stene Pijper can cause the Chargers today. Turner said, “ Ace was phenomenal on Friday so hopefully his spirits are high and Stene rode well in his last heat at Scunthorpe so hopefully he can carry that on today. Overall, it’s good to have the brothers back together at three and four as they ride perfectly together.”

The charismatic team boss also heaped praise on Middlesbrough’s guest for the meeting, Cooper Rushen. Turner said, “ Everywhere Cooper goes he seems to fly, he will be a great guest for us and he fits in really nicely at number two for the injured Jamie Halder.”

The former rider turned team manager is also keen to see both Tigers reserves, Ben Rathbone and Kai Ward in action. Turner said, “ Obviously, it’s Ben’s first meeting of the season after being away but he spun some laps on Friday night and looked good on a new engine and Kai is doing more than enough for us at reserve, he’s riding really well.”

The Chargers are led at number one by the emerging Jody Scott whilst Senna Summers continues his speedway education at number seven for the hosts.

REDCAR produced a stellar team display to record a 57-32 win over Scunthorpe at the ECCO Arena. Charles Wright struck a four ride paid maximum whilst Ace Pijper rode blisteringly to hit paid 11, meanwhile, Scunthorpe’s Jake Allen hit paid 12 for the visitors. 

The BSN Series encounter was a complete team performance from the Bears and the 25 point winning margin easily secured the aggregate bonus point (101-78) in the battle to win the BSN Series Northern group. 

Redcar started superbly with a 5-1 as Jake Mulford gated superbly for a comfortable win, and with Wright passing Steve Worrall on lap two, Redcar had the dream start on home shale. 

However, the Scorpions hit back with a 5-1 of their own as Zaine Kennedy won comfortably, and he was closely followed home by his brother, Declan Kennedy to bring Scunthorpe back on level terms. 

Remarkably, this was as good as it got for the Scorpions with the 2024 BSN Series finalists failing to produce another heat advantage. Heat three saw Danny King take the win, and with Jason Edwards just holding off Connor Mountain, Redcar had a two point lead. 

Heat four saw the first shared race as Allen made a jet propelled start for the win, but with Pijper riding superbly to hold off Zaine Kennedy, Scunthorpe were still behind on Teesside. 

The fifth race of a spectacular evening saw King take a superb win, and with Edwards in a comfortable 2nd, Redcar had amassed an 18-12 advantage after only five heats at the ECCO Arena. 

After Wright won a shared heat six, drama followed in an eventful heat seven. The first staging saw Riss gate, and with Tom Spencer battling into 2nd, Redcar were set for a 5-1. However, on the first bend of the 3rd lap, Mountain attempted to go underneath Spencer but came in too hot, bringing Spencer down with the referee excluding Mountain. 

The second staging saw more drama as Riss gated again for the lead with Spencer passing Simon Lambert on the back straight of the opening lap for the lead. However, Lambert hastily tried to swoop under Spencer with the reserve hitting the deck for the second time, with Lambert excluded from the 3rd and final staging. 

The 3rd re-run saw Riss win, and with Spencer in an unopposed 2nd, the “Agilia” Bears had a nine point lead over their Lincolnshire rivals. Heat eight saw more battling spirit from a Bears reserve as Pijper held his nerve to pass Declan Kennedy on bend three of the opening bend, and with Mulford winning, Redcar’s lead was a startling 15 points. 

After Allen continued a lone battle against the Bears with a win in a shared heat nine, Redcar’s advantage was extended with a 4-2 in heat 10, but not without a battle. Mountain gated until Wright dived underneath the Scorpion on the final bend of lap three for the win, and with Mulford 3rd, Redcar had a 38-21 lead, much to the delight of the Bears fans. 

After Riss won a shared heat 11, Redcar produced their 4th 5-1 as Edwards won with ease, and with Pijper producing a classy pass on Declan Kennedy entering lap three, Redcar had officially secured victory. 

Heat 13 saw Wright win, with Worrall, Riss and Allen all jostling for 2nd. Riss used the inside line in 3rd, but did not have enough to pass Worrall for 2nd, but the German did hold off an outside charge from Allen to secure another home heat advantage. 

Heat 14 saw Mountain record his first win of the evening, but with Zaine Kennedy at the back, Redcar’s 23 point advantage remained intact. The final race saw Riss win, and with Edwards just holding off Harrison for 3rd, Redcar secured a remarkable 57-32 success.

REDCAR boss Gavin Parr insists there is more to come from his “Agilia” Bears side. Redcar host Scunthorpe in the BSN Series Northern group tomorrow night with tapes up at 7:30pm at the ECCO Arena. 

Parr spoke bullishly about Redcar’s start to 2025 when speaking to official club media. Parr said, ” 46-44 was one of our best performances at Scunthorpe for a while, we had 12 heat winners, however, we had 12 last places and I came away a little disappointed with the defeat, but there were positive signs.”

The former Redcar Cub was delighted with the performance of the “Agilia” Bears heat leaders against Scunthorpe with Wright, King and Riss amassing 35 points from 14 rides.

Parr said, ” Last year we struggled for that 3rd heat leader but this season we could have four if Jason (Edwards) keeps progressing. The three top boys at Scunthorpe were superb for us.”

Despite the positive signs, Parr knows the Scorpions pose a threat at the ECCO Arena. Parr said, ” Scunthorpe ride our track really well, they have three former Bears in Steve Worrall, Jake Allen and Luke Harrison whilst Declan Kennedy impressed at reserve last week so it won’t be an easy task, that’s for sure.”

The passionate Redcar manager is expecting more from the 1-7 as a whole. Parr said, ” I’m looking for our second strings and reserves to give the three heat leaders a little bit of back-up which will help to get us over the line tomorrow night.”

The former Cycle Speedway man also reiterated the task that faces Redcar tomorrow. Parr said, ” It’s imperative that we win at home and win well, and tomorrow, we need to win by more than two points to get the bonus point, which will be vital to our qualification chances.”

The team boss is wary of the threat posed by the Scunthorpe reserve pairing, Declan and Zaine Kennedy. Parr said, ” They probably have one of the best reserve pairings in the league, they will both be a threat but I will be looking at our reserves to get amongst them and take points from them throughout the meeting, especially in heat two.”

Redcar have named their initial, declared 1-7 for the first time this season as Ace Pijper returns to the fold after being on international duty last weekend. 

The Scorpions picked up two wins at the ECCO Arena last season and David Howe’s men will be looking to pick up the aggregate point in their attempts to reach the BSN Series semi-finals. 

Redcar’s Charles Wright and Erik Riss will parade the club’s Pairs trophy to the crowd after their memorable success at Workington just under three weeks ago.

The MIDDLESBROUGH “Heat Floors” Tigers powered by “STS” battled hard but just missed out on a maiden away win as they fell 46-44 to the Scunthorpe Steelers. Tigers guest Cooper Rushen top scored with 14 for Middlesbrough whilst Luke Harrison struck a faultless 15 point maximum for the hosts. 

The Tigers started on the front foot as the impressive starlet, Cooper Rushen passed Nathan Ablitt to win, and with Tom Spencer 3rd, Middlesbrough had the lead in the embryonic stages. 

Heat two saw Kai Ward take the win, and with Middlesbrough guest Laylan Richardson in a confidence boosting 3rd, the Tigers had a four point lead. Heat three saw the Tigers hit a maximum 5-1 as Middlesbrough guest Jacob Clouting won and with guest Sam McGurk 2nd, the Tigers were in the driving seat.  

Heat four saw Harrison win after passing a fast starting Danny Phillips, and with Jamie Etherington 3rd for the hosts after Phillips suffered mechanical problems, the Steelers had their first heat advantage. 

Nevertheless, the Tigers re-established their eight point lead as Rushen won again, and with Spencer 3rd, the Tigers had the upper hand. However, the Steelers bounced back with their first 5-1 as Ablitt won, and with Luke Harris second, the gap was only four points.

After Harrison won again for the hosts in a shared heat seven, Middlesbrough extended their lead to six points as the unflappable Rushen took another chequered flag, and with the ever improving Kai Ward 3rd, Middlesbrough were brimming with confidence. 

However, the lead was immediately cut to two points as the untouchable Harrison won after passing Phillips, and with Mickie Simpson also getting the better of the Tigers captain, the Steelers had their sights set on a lead of their own. 

Tigers guest Sam McGurk took an impressive win over Ablitt in a shared heat 10 with heat 11 pitting Harrison against Rushen, a battle of the two undefeated riders. The race saw a close battle with Harrison just taking the win, despite Rushen’s best efforts, but with Harrison Rogers 4th, the Steelers were still two behind. 

Heat 12 saw disaster strike on bend four of the final lap for the Steelers who looked set for a 5-1 heat advantage until Etherington fell on the last bend, allowing both Tigers through for a 3-3 to keep the visitors two ahead. 

However, Scunthorpe then struck a superb 5-1 in heat 13 to lead 40-38 as Harrison won again, and with Ablitt 2nd, Scunthorpe had the all-important advantage heading into heats 14 & 15. 

Heat 14 saw Ward flip the bike at the start, and to compound the Tigers misery, Simpson won in a Steelers 4-2 to give the hosts a 44-40 lead with one race remaining. The final heat saw Rushen defeat Simpson for the win, but with McGurk only able to get the better of Ablitt, the Tigers fell just short in a 46-44 reverse.

In a nip and tuck BSN Series encounter, Scunthorpe edged past Redcar with a 46-44 win after a last heat decider at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Scunthorpe number one Steve Worrall hit 9 for the hosts whilst Danny King hit 14 for the Bears. 

Despite posting 12 heat winners, Redcar struggled for heat advantages which ultimately cost the “Agilia” Bears in their opening BSN Series fixture. 

Scunthorpe started with a heat advantage as Steve Worrall took the chequered flag, and with Luke Harrison getting the better of Jake Mulford, Scunthorpe had the early lead. 

Heat two saw Redcar gate on a maximum heat advantage, however, both Kennedy brothers passed Tom Spencer for the minor placings, but with the impressive Redcar guest, Jody Scott taking the win, the “Agilia” Bears had their first heat winner of the afternoon. 

Redcar levelled matters in heat three as King won with relative comfort, and with Jason Edwards riding well to pass Simon Lambert after the Scunthorpe skipper had initially passed the Bears man, the visitors were back at 9-9 on away shale. 

After Erik Riss opened his account with a win in a shared heat four, Redcar took the lead with a heat five 4-2 as Wright manoeuvred his way past both Scorpions for the win, and with Scott 3rd, Redcar were in pole position. 

Heat six saw the excellent Riss win again, but with Spencer at the rear, Redcar’s lead remained at two points. 

After King won a shared heat seven, the hosts hit back emphatically with a 5-1 as Luke Harrison won, and with the returning Zaine Kennedy in 2nd, the Scorpions now had a 2 point lead of their own. 

Heat 10 saw Redcar return to the heat winners column as King won, but with Scott failing to get off the start, Redcar remained two behind. 

The 11th race saw Wright ride superbly to pass both Declan Kennedy and Jake Allen with the skipper then holding off the impressive Scunthorpe debutant Kennedy. In the battle for 3rd, Allen just about held off a hard charging Mulford to ensure Scunthorpe remained ahead. 

Heat 12 saw Redcar record their 10th heat win, but with Scott passed by Lambert and Zaine Kennedy, the Bears were still in search of a priceless heat advantage. Wright battled superbly to beat Allen to the chequered flag in heat 13, but with Riss 4th, the Bears remained two behind. 

The penultimate heat saw King fend off Declan Kennedy for the win, but with Scott unable to reel in Connor Mountain, Scunthorpe had the all-important advantage heading into heat 15. 

The final race saw King and Wright lineup against Allen and Worrall with the Scorpions selecting gates one and three. As the tapes rose, Wright and King were slow from the gate but both Bears battled past Worrall into scoring positions. However, both Redcar men could not find a way past Allen, meaning the Scorpions took a valuable two BSN Series points.

Middlesbrough Tigers number one, Tom Spencer believes his side are moving in the right direction ahead of the club’s second WSRA National League fixture at Scunthorpe this evening. 

The 3rd tier clash is expected to start at 5pm after the BSN Series clash between the Scorpions and the Bears. 

Spencer, who hit paid 10 on his “Heat Floors” Tigers debut, believes his side are moving in the right direction. Spencer said, “ All the boys rode well, it was a lot of their first meeting, so there’s lots of positives to take from it, we were close up until the last two or three heats.”

The Tigers heat leader was impressed with the display of Jamie Halder against Edinburgh. Spencer said, “ Jamie rode the best I’ve seen him ride, it’s just unfortunate that he ended up with two fractured ribs after his crash in heat 15.”

The Redcar reserve knows his Redcar meetings will help him in Tigers meetings. Spencer explained, “ Last Friday’s meeting was a bruising one but it’s all part and parcel of learning. I learnt more in that meeting than I would have had with an easy ride, so it’s all good for me.”

Spencer will be the lone Tiger who rides in both meetings, (alongside Luke Harrison for the Steelers) believes his on-track experience will be key to a potential Tigers success. Spencer said, “ It’s very important, everyone rides the bike differently, but if I can help on how the track is riding, it just gives the boys a head start when they go out for their first heat.”

The Tigers are forced into four changes due to an injury and other racing commitments. Jamie Halder is ruled out with a rib injury whilst Ace Pijper is on European under 19 duty. Additionally, both Stene Pijper and Ben Rathbone are unavailable. 

The Tigers have brought in two former club juniors in Cooper Rushen and Laylan Richardson. The engine room will be filled by Sam McGurk and Jacob Clouting, with the Tigers boss Brian Turner hopeful for a strong showing from his side. 

The Steelers are led at number one by Nathan Ablitt whilst the former Somerset reserve Luke Harris makes his return to the sport for the Steelers.

REDCAR star Danny King knows his “Agilia” Bears side has the necessary firepower to pull off a result against Scunthorpe. Redcar begin their BSN Series group campaign with a Good Friday trip to Scunthorpe with tapes up at 3pm at the Eddie Wright Raceway. 

The clash forms part of a double header with the Middlesbrough Tigers set to face off against the combined Scunthorpe and Sheffield Steelers side after the BSN Series fixture. 

King, who hit 11 points from four rides against Newcastle, knows the club’s heat leaders have the tools to “take something away” from Scunthorpe. King said, “ Erik (Riss) is in good form at the moment, as is Charles (Wright) and I’m also riding well, so there’s no reason why we can’t go there and get something out of it.”

Despite suffering a knock in the Tyne-Tees Trophy, the British veteran is “ready to go racing”. King said, “ I can’t keep throwing myself around the track like that, I’m getting older. Nevertheless, I’m feeling better every day and I’m ready to go racing.”

Ace Pijper is unavailable for tonight’s meeting as he is on European U19 duty with Redcar drafting in Oxford’s Jody Scott as a guest replacement. Nevertheless, King was impressed with Pijper and Tom Spencer on their Bears debuts. 

King said, “ It was a tough meeting for them but they did well, they’re not going to come up against a reserve like Alfie Bowtell every week. Remember, they’ve also got to get to grips with the track as it’s new for them but I thought they showed good signs.”

The veteran also reserved special praise for one of the Bears heat 15 heroes, Jason Edwards. King said, “ Jason’s been riding very well and you can see, he watches and learns a lot and you can see the benefits of that. I saw it a lot in 2024 and I’m seeing it again this year. He’s ready to take that next step and that can only help the team.”

The 3rd year Bear was impressed with the performance and the atmosphere inside the ECCO Arena last Friday, “ It was great to see a good turnout and we rode well against a strong Diamonds side. We did a good job to win and hopefully we can take that into tonight.”

Redcar welcome back Erik Riss from a shoulder injury whilst the aforementioned Jody Scott deputises for Ace Pijper. Redcar captain Charles Wright will be hoping to continue his red hot form after the skipper hit a full maximum against Newcastle. 

Meanwhile, the hosts hand a debut to Declan Kennedy, with the Australian partnering his brother, the returning Zaine Kennedy, with both lining up at reserve for the Scorpions. The remaining five Scorpions have been retained by the club from 2024 with Steve Worrall, Jake Allen and Simon Lambert set to lead their charge in 2025.
