Redcar Bears Speedway — ECCO Arena, Middlesbrough
In response to a large number of enquiries from around the country yesterday the club would like to state that it is looking into the matter regarding the interpretation of the rules and will consider its response when it has received an official reply from the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile the club hope to see a large turnout of Bears fans at Sheffield to support Ben Barker in the Championship riders final on Sunday.
Redcar Ecco Finishing Bears continued their recent good form, with a fine 52-38 win over local rivals Newcastle at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night.
The Bears started slowly on the night, and were down 1 rider after Mikkel B Andersen took a nasty fall in heat 2. He spun round on bend 3 whilst leading, and great riding by both Matthew Wethers and Carl Wilkinson to lay their bikes down helped avoid any further injuries to the Dane. After 5 heats the Diamonds led by 4 points, although they themselves were down a rider after a controversial heat 6 clash between Barker and Tero Aarnio. The Bears man made a move up the inside and appeared to make contact with Aarnio, who hit the second bend airfence hard. The referee though adjudged the Newcastle man to be at fault and excluded him.
From that point on the Bears took control of the meeting, and never looked like losing. Some great racing from Barker, Nike Lunna and the sponsors man of the match Thomas Jorgensen ensured the 3 points went to the Bears, despite some spirited performances from Stuart Robson and Matej Kus in particular.
Bears manager Jade Mudgway was delighted with his teams performance:
Well what a brilliant win after a shaky start. With the track in perfect condition, they all got to it. Newcastle gave us a good fight but our Bears wanted it more. I can’t single out one rider for a stand out performance they all put there bit in. And there is nothing better than getting one over Newcastle. I would like to send a get well soon to both Tero Aarnio and Mikkel B Andersen both having heavy crashes tonight.

The much anticipated 2018 NJL 4 team tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday the 15th of September at Redcar (2pm start). The 7 league clubs of Ashfield, Berwick, Edinburgh,Newcastle, Peterborough, Redcar And Workington will be joined by former NJL league & 4TT champions Castleford.
The competition will once again showcase 32 of the best youth riders in the country (16 125cc, 16 500cc) over 36 heats to decide the champion. We have managed to run this meeting for 5 seasons totally free for both the riders and spectators alike, in order to do this we rely heavily on the fantastic sponsorship we have received in previous years.

Redcar Ecco Finishing Supplies Bears this week play host to their nearest rivals, as the Newcastle Diamonds make the short journey to the Media Prima Arena on Thursday (7:30pm start).
The Bears will be looking to build on their thrilling 45-44 win over Workington last Thursday, in their quest to avoid finishing bottom of the league. The Bears currently sit 1 place, and 2 points above Sheffield with 1 meeting in hand so will be looking for a win to give them a bit of breathing space.
Looking back to the meeting last Thursday, it had a little bit of everything. Bears team manager Jade Mudgway was delighted with his sides efforts, and even had a word of praise for the early evening rain!:
“The track was actually perfect. the rain really helped produce a perfect racing surface. Some looking at Workington’s away form may have thought they would walk away with the win, but the bears and our fans knew better. We dug deep in heat 15 with some superb team riding to get the 3-3 needed to win the match by 1 point. Massive credit has to go to Nike and Ben for their brilliant team ride under so much pressure.”
Looking ahead to this Thursday’s meeting, and the Bears are once again at full strength. Newcastle are without their Swedish Star Ludvig Lindgren, they will operate Rider Replacement in his absence. It is a team packed full of Media Prima experience however, with three ex Bears in Stuart Robson, Carl Wilkinson and of course Matej Kus. Mudgway is expecting a tough meeting, but knows his side will give everything to get the win over their A19 rivals:

Next up for the Redcar Ecco Finishing Bears are the Newcastle Diamonds who visit the Media Prima Arena on Thursday. The Bears are looking to get another win to help them climb the table and another tight contest is expected with the ‘Wonky Boxes’ having ex Bears Matej Kus, Stuart Robson and Carl Wilkinson in their side.

Tonights meeting at Workington has been postponed due to a waterlogged track, with the prospect of further rain throughout the day. A restaging date will be provided when known.

On a thrilling night at the Media Prima Arena, Redcar Ecco Finishing Supplies Bears got the 3-3 they needed in a last heat decider to beat a strong Workington side 45-44.
Praise must go to the track staff, and all 14 riders for giving it a go after a heavy rain shower around 5pm gave the track a good soaking. The Bears started off like a house and fire, and were eight points up after 3 heats. The Comets fought back well, and going into heat 8 were just two points behind before a heat 8 which had a bit of everything. In the first staging, Jordan Stewart jumped at the start and was disqualified from the re-run and was replaced by Mikkel B Andersen. Then Rene Bach fell awkwardly on the first bend and was also excluded, and indeed had to withdraw from the meeting after aggravating a shoulder injury. In the third staging, Rasmus Jensen then fell after a tough first bend in which he could feel a touch unlucky to be excluded. This left just MBA and Nike Lunna in the heat giving the Bears an unusual 5-0 heat advantage.
The Bears kept up the pressure, and after heat 10 had built up a commanding 13 point lead. Play-off chasing Workington had other ideas however, and fought back well to take the meeting into a last heat decider with just 1 point separating the sides. The very impressive Dan Bewley duly won the decider, but with Nike Lunna and skipper Ben Barker finishing second in third it ensured the Bears took the points!
It was a great home debut for the Finn Lunna, who joint top scored with 9+2 alongside Barker. Mikkel B Andersen also had a good night with 8+1. Wonderkid Dan Bewley top scored for the Comets with 14, with Proctor scoring 9. It was a thoroughly entertaining meeting by both sides, in front of a good sized crowd in Teesside.

Thursday evening sees the Redcar Ecco Finishing Bears go up against a strong Workington Comets side as the Bears look to build on their confidence boosting win last time out at Sheffield. The Bears hope to be at full strength as their Danish contingent fly back from a league match in Denmark and Frenchman Dimitre Berge returns from winning another round of the World Long Track Championship.
Also at the meeting tomorrow to mark the 90th anniversary of the Teesside Silver Helmet meeting a set of vintage ‘upright’ engine bikes will compete in the second half races with such famous bikes as the 2 valve Jawa and the British built Weslake taking part. To mark the occasion a set of former riders from past years have been invited to attend and they will be a display of older bikes and equipment for the fans to see. This Thursday sees the Redcar Ecco Finishing Bears take on a very strong Workington Comets side, as the Media Prima Arena celebrates 90 years since Speedway started on Teesside.
The Bears were last in action a couple of weeks ago, with a superb away win at Sheffield. The meeting will see the home debut of exciting Finnish star Nike Lunna, who has come into the team to replace Tobias Busch. Lunna has an exciting racing style, and has often gone well around the MPA in the past. The Bears are led by captain Ben Barker, who will be our representative in the Championship Riders Championship at Sheffield on the 2nd September.
Workington have had an excellent season so far, and sit in fifth place in the league but with meetings in hand over all the teams above them. Their team is built on strength in depth, and is typified by the fact that Rene Bach, with a 6.11 average will ride at reserve. Comets captain Ty Proctor is certainly no stranger to the Media Prima Arena, and is always a popular visitor.
