REDCAR legend Charles Wright believes his “Agilia” Bears side are firing at the right time ahead of the Cab Direct Championship play-offs. Redcar make the long journey to Poole tonight to take on the Pirates with tapes up at 7:30pm, with the match live on BSN. 

Wright, who is closing in on 200 appearances for Redcar, believes his side are hitting form at the right time ahead of a crucial end to 2025. Wright said, “ All of the boys seem to be going well at the minute and we have a good guest in Nick Morris so hopefully we can do a job at Poole.”

The 36 year old knows the Pirates will be a tough proposition across both legs. Wright said, “ Poole are as good around the ECCO Arena as they are around Wimborne Road so hopefully everyone does their job when it comes to the crunch.”

The skipper also revealed that he had planned to retire at the age of 40 from the sport, but with the Bears number one going “better than ever”, he does not know when he will retire. 

Wright said, “ I had planned to cap my time in speedway at 40 but I just seem to keep getting better so I don’t know when I’ll retire if I’m honest!”

The 2019 British Champion has also reiterated how happy he is at the ECCO Arena, describing Redcar like home. Wright said, “ I’m happy here and this is where I want to be. Redcar feels like home to me, the fans and the management have been great all the time I have been here.”

Wright, who has been a lynchpin of the side for many a year, believes the Bears can pull off a treble. Wright said, “ The last couple of years, a lot came down to me and Danny (King) but this year we have really performed well as a team and there are no weak links so there’s no reason why we can’t (win the treble) but we are just taking it one meeting at a time for now.”

The Redcar mainstay believes 2025 comes close to his superb season in 2019. Wright said, “ This year comes very close to 2019 for me, it’s very similar to that year when I won the British title and we won the KO Cup so it’s been a good year for me and the club so far.”

Redcar bring in the aforementioned Nick Morris in place of Erik Riss whilst Jody Scott returns to the side after his trip to the Czech Republic for Team GB. 

The Pirates are at full strength with Richard Lawson at number one sure to cause problems for the Bears.

REDCAR made it seven wins on the spin with a convincing 53-37 win over Workington. The “Agilia” Bears punished the Comets for a slow start which ended their slim play-off hopes. 

Remarkably, no rider scored double figures with only Workington’s Tate Zischke hitting paid double figures with 9+2. Redcar produced a superb team display with the lowest scorer, (Ace Pijper) hitting 6+1 with guest Jake Allen top scoring with 9. 

Workington started proceedings with a heat winner as Fraser Bowes impressively held off Charles Wright for the win, but with Troy Batchelor unable to make an impression on Jake Mulford, the opening spoils were shared at the ECCO Arena. 

After Vinnie Foord hit the deck on the opening bends of heat two, the Bears struck a 4-2 heat advantage as the Bears Sam Hagon, won impressively from the gate, and with Pijper keeping Foord at the back, Redcar had the lead in search of their 11th home win in 2025. 

Allen opened his account with a tapes to flag heat win, and with Jason Edwards 3rd, Redcar had a four point advantage on Teesside. The Bears hit their first maximum in heat four as Pijper took a comfortable win, and with Danny King holding off early pressure from Antti Vuolas, the hosts had a sizeable eight point lead in the early stages. 

After a shared heat five won by Edwards, the Bears hit their second maximum as Mulford brilliantly passed Vuolas on bend four of lap one to lead, and with Wright passing the Finn entering lap four, Redcar had full control in their final Cab Direct Championship league match. 

The rampant Bears hammered home their advantage with another 5-1 as King took his first chequered flag of the match, and with Hagon again impressing onlookers with a paid win, the Comets were in big trouble. 

If the Comets were in big trouble after seven heats, they were in disarray after heat eight as Mulford won comfortably, and with Pijper making a breathtaking double inside pass on both Comets at the end of lap one for the paid win, Redcar had a 34-14 lead. 

Heat nine saw Allen register his second win, and with Edwards 3rd, Redcar struck their 7th heat advantage in only the 9th race of the evening. Workington finally hit back with their first heat advantage in heat 10 as Jye Etheridge and Tate Zischke team rode brilliantly to hold off Wright to reduce the deficit to 18 points at the ECCO Arena. 

However, Redcar resumed their dominance with a heat 11 4-2 as King continued his impressive form to win, and with Hagon 3rd despite pressuring Batchelor in the early stages, Redcar’s lead was a substantial one. 

Heat 12 saw Workington show some fight as Jacob Hook won, and with Vuolas holding off Edwards, the visiting Comets fans had something to cheer. 

After Wright won a shared heat 13, Redcar surpassed the 50 mark as Allen capped off a successful guest booking with a win, and with Hagon 3rd, Redcar had a 51-33 lead on home shale. 

The final race of the evening saw Zischke win ahead of Edwards, and with Hook beating Mulford for 3rd, Workington took their 3rd heat advantage to end on a high.

REDCAR boss Gavin Parr has challenged his side to “keep building their momentum” ahead of tomorrow’s final regular Cab Direct Championship match of the season. The “Agilia” Bears host the Workington Comets with tapes up at 7:30pm at the ECCO Arena.

Redcar have won six straight meetings ahead of a crucial end to the season with the Bears fighting on three fronts, starting next week in the play-off semi-final first leg at Poole followed by a trip to Oxford in the MAXiCab KO Cup. 

Conversely, Workington’s silverware hopes lie with their slim hopes of reaching the play-offs, with the Comets needing to take maximum points from their remaining three matches. 

Parr, who has masterminded Redcar’s run to three major semi-finals, wants to build his side’s momentum whilst admitting tomorrow’s fixture carries the least importance from now until the end of the campaign.

Parr said, “ The guys have built the momentum with six wins on the bounce so we don’t want to throw that away as it’s important to have positive momentum heading into the most vital part of the season. Also though, it’s even more important that we come out of tomorrow’s meeting with the side still fit and raring to go.”

The enthusiastic boss also discussed his reasoning behind booking Jake Allen as a guest, after the Aussie’s very public altercation with Charles Wright. Parr said, “ We all know what went on between Charles and Jake but I think Jake can do a very good job for the team.”

The British boss knows the Comets will pose a threat at the ECCO Arena. Parr said, “ We will not be taking Workington for granted, we know that we are in good form and riding well but we all know Workington will give us a tough match, but one our boys will be ready for.”

The former rider turned manager insists he has not been surprised by his side’s recent run. Parr said, “ Our recent run hasn’t surprised me at all. I believed we had improvement throughout the side at the start of the season. Danny (King) had a tough year last year but he has come back really strongly this season.”

Redcar bring in the aforementioned Jake Allen to guest for Erik Riss whilst Berwick’s Sam Hagon covers at reserve for Jody Scott who is on international duty. Due to a change in the averages for September, Jake Mulford returns to the main body of the side at number two. 

The Comets are at full strength with Troy Batchelor leading the side at number one. The “Agilia” Bears will also have to be watchful of the exciting Tate Zischke who goes well around the ECCo Arena and Jacob Hook who has had a solid 2025.

REDCAR made it six league wins on the spin for the first time since 2013 and secured 3rd place in the Cab Direct Championship table with a stunning 43-45 away win at Scunthorpe. 

Redcar, who head into the play-offs in scintillating form, picked up their first win at the Eddie Wright Raceway since 2017. Charles Wright hit paid 13 for the “Agilia” Bears with Luke Harrison once again starring for the hosts with paid 11. 

Redcar started the meeting in superb fashion as Jody Scott took a mightily impressive heat 1 win, and with Wright profiting from Zaine Kennedy suffering an engine failure (after he had initially passed Wright) the Bears had made the perfect start at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

However, heat two saw the Scorpions level up as Jake Mulford and Ace Pijper both struggled from the gate, handing Scunthorpe the initiative and they secured a 5-1 to make it 6-6 on the night. 

Scunthorpe took the lead for the first time as Harrison continued his impressive breakout season with a heat win, and with Connor Mountain 3rd, the hosts had a slim advantage. 

After a shared heat four won by Danny King, the Bears retook the lead in heat five as Wright won and with Scott impressing with a paid win to remain undefeated by an opponent, the large travelling contingent celebrated Redcar’s second maximum heat advantage. 

With King seeming to relish the dirt on the track, he won heat six, but with Mulford being passed by both Scorpions, Redcar could not extend their lead. 

Heat seven saw Jason Edwards and Antti Vuolas hit the deck on bend one, and with the referee deeming the Finnish guest as the primary cause of the stoppage, Edwards was the lone Bear in the re-run. The re-run saw Jake Allen win, but with Edwards keeping Scorpions guest Ben Trigger in 3rd, he ensured Redcar did not fall behind, with a home 4-2 levelling the meeting.

Heat eight saw major drama in both of the first two runnings. Firstly, with the race in the melting pot as all four were close together entering the final bend of the opening lap, Pijper’s front wheel appeared to be taken away and the race was stopped. Surprisingly, the referee chose to exclude Pijper, with the SCB official deeming Pijper fell without any other infringement. 

In the second running, Scott made a superb move to lead, but with the young Brit losing control of his machine on bend two of lap two and hitting the fence, he was excluded from the third re-run but thankfully, Scott was up and okay. 

The final re-run was a simple 5-0 to Scunthorpe, giving them a vital five point lead in their race to avoid the wooden spoon. King made it three straight wins as he passed both Mountain and Harrison to win heat nine impressively, but with Mulford 4th, the Bears remained five adrift. 

Heat 10 saw Vuolas come to the party with a win, and with Edwards 3rd ahead of Steve Worrall, the visitors reduced the arrears to three points. Allen continued his superb evening’s work with a heat 11 win as he used his home track expertise to hold off Wright, but with Trigger 4th, the Scorpions could not move further clear. 

After Harrison won a shared heat 12, Wright produced fireworks in the next race as he moved from 3rd to 1st off bend two of the second lap to win, but with King 4th, the Bears remained behind. 

Heat 14 saw further controversy in it’s second staging after Mountain flipped his bike at the start of the first running and was excluded. The second staging saw Pijper try to move into second ahead of Simon Lambert on bend three of the opening lap, but the Bear seemed to catch the Scorpions skipper. However, the referee excluded Lambert, leaving two Bears in the re-run. 

After Vuolas (1st) and Pijper (2nd) hit a Redcar 5-0, heat 15 saw Vuolas lead, but despite Harrison passing the Finn, a 3-3 was enough to give Redcar another win ahead of the play-offs and important cup semifinals.

REDCAR starlet Ace Pijper has praised his Bears teammates for their help and support this season. Redcar return to action this evening against Scunthorpe in the Cab Direct Championship with tapes up at 7:30pm at the Eddie Wright Raceway. 

Pijper, who is fresh off a second tier best performance of 13+1 last Friday, has lavished praise on his teammates who have helped him blossom in 2025. 

The Bears reserve said, ” The boys have been great so far, they have helped me on track as well as mentally. I also have my Dad (Theo Pijper) who knows a lot but it’s great to get words of advice from current great riders as well.”

The current British U19 champion knows he needs to stay focused to continue his blistering run of form. Pijper said, ” It’s going well for me at the moment but I’ve got to keep focused and not get carried away and then things should continue.”

Pijper has also expressed a likeness for the Eddie Wright Raceway ahead of tonight’s clash. Pijper said, ” I like the Scunthorpe track, we don’t want to go to Scunthorpe and lose for the second time this season so hopefully we can turn the tables on the Scorpions.”

Pijper will partner Jake Mulford for the last time at reserve this month with Mulford set to move back into the main body of the side next month. Pijper said, ” It has been good riding with Jake, although he usually just traps in heat two and leaves me! Heat two was different last week but getting another 5-1 tonight will be good for the next time we ride together.”

The Middlesbrough Tigers number one has been pretty happy with his debut season on Teesside, with the Cab Direct Championship starlet expressing an interest in returning to the ECCO Arena next season if the sport’s governing bodies rules permit a return. 

Pijper said, ” I have had a pretty decent year, I started a little slowly in the opening matches but after that things are going reasonably well and better than previous years I’ve had at this level. I would like to stay at Redcar if things work out, it’s a great club and everyone seems to have fun at Redcar.”

Redcar bring in Scunthorpe track specialist Antti Vuolas in place of Erik Riss whilst Jody Scott returns to the side after illness precluded him from appearing in the home defeat of the Scorpions. 

The Scorpions, who are looking to avoid the wooden spoon, bring in ex-Bear Ben Trigger to guest in place of the injured Declan Kennedy at reserve with the rest of the Scorpions side remaining unchanged.
