Redcar SG Petch Bears fell to another defeat away at the Glasgow Tigers on Saturday night, losing 52-41 in a hard fought meeting.
With Charles Wright and Ellis Perks both out through injury, it was always going to be a big as for the Bears but they battled hard throughout the meeting and produced some good racing.
The excellent Ben Barker top scored for the Bears with 16 on his return to Glasgow, with Jason Garrity scoring 8+1 and Jonas B Andersen 7.

Aaron Summers top scored for the Tigers with 12+1, with Richie Worrall scoring 12 and Richard Lawson 11+1.

The Bears are next in action on Thursday, with a home meeting against the Workington Comets.

Redcar SG Petch Bears will be using Rider Replacement for Charles Wright at tonight’s meeting at Glasgow. Charles was struggling with a knee injury at Sheffield on Thursday, as well as still struggling with the flu and needs further time to recover. He aims to be back for the Workington meeting on Thursday.

Ellis Perks will also miss the meeting due to injury. He sustained a suspected fracture to his kneecap as well as a strained knee ligament in his crash at Poole on Wednesday, along with severe bruising. He will be out for around 10 days, and we will get an update on his progress through this week. Shelby Rutherford will guest for him this evening. Manager Jitendra Duffill revealed how hard a task it has been to replace Ellis:

I have had a lot of difficulty finding guests for Ellis. Every single reserve that is riding in the Premiership or Championship who is eligible to guest for him is unavailable and I had pretty much the same situation finding a guest yesterday at Sheffield.  He is the worst rider to lose through injury as he is riding well above his average and guest options are very limited.

We thank Shelby for stepping in for us.

Bears fans may also have noticed that captain Jason Garrity  has now also signed for Premiership club Leicester. It has been agreed that we will have priority on his availability so he will not miss any Redcar fixtures when there is a clash.

Despite a brave effort, the SG Petch Bears fell to a 54-38 defeat at Sheffield last night in a tough meeting. Already missing Jonas B Andersen due to Danish Championship commitments, the Bears task was made harder with high flying reserve Ellis Perks falling at Poole on Wednesday night and also having to miss the meeting.

The remaining Bears and guest Tom Bacon battled hard, and after a difficult start to the meeting battled back to within 4 points of a strong Sheffield side. However, two quick home 5-1s in heats 9 and 10 swung the meeting back in favour of the hosts and gave the Bears just too much to do. Jason Garrity, top scorer for the Bears at his old club, won his tactical ride to give the Bears a 7-2 heat advantage, but a disastrous heat 13 for the Bears saw the Tigers score a 5-0 and clinch the points. Barker had bike troubles on the first bend of the race, Garrity had gated in the lead but he too had issues on the third bend to gift Sheffield maximum points.

The Bears now travel to Glasgow on Saturday in what should be another exciting meeting. Jonas B Andersen will be back on the lineup, whilst we await further news on Ellis Perks injuries.

Due to a crash at Poole last night whilst riding for Rye House, Ellis Perks will be missing from the SG Petch Bears lineup at Sheffield this evening. Peterboroughs Tom Bacon will fill the number 7 position.

There is no action at the Media Prima Arena this Thursday, as the SG Petch Bears instead travel to Sheffield to take on the Tigers in Championship action (7:30pm start).

Sheffield, like the Bears, have started the season well and at home especially are a very strong side and it shapes up to be a cracking contest. The Tigers have a couple of names very familiar to Bears fans in ex-number 1 Lasse Bjerre and Bears asset Rob Branford.

The Bears will be without Danish star Jonas B Andersen for this meeting, as he is required to be in Denmark for a Danish Championship qualifier on Friday morning. Rider replacement will operate in his absence. Jason Garrity and Richard Hall both return to their former club and will be looking for big points on their returns! Charles Wright will also be fit after missing Somersets meeting on Monday.

Reminder to Bears fans there is no home meeting this coming Thursday, however there is still a chance to catch up with your speedway friends at a race night on Wednesday night instead. The race night is to raise funds for Richard Hall, and will be held at the Bears Bar with a 7pm start. Admission is £5 and includes pie and peas. 

Bears promoter Kevin Keay will also be updating fans on the latest club and rider news, as well as answering any questions from you the fans.

Redcar SG Petch Bears continued their good form with a 49-43 win over the Berwick Bandits, but were made to work hard by a determined Berwick side at the Media Prima Arena.
The meeting stated well for the Bears, with two heat wins from Charles Wright helping the Bears to a 10 point lead after just 5 heats. Berwick dug in well however and battled their way back into the meeting with heat wins for the impressive Kevin Doolan and Steve Worrall. 

A heat 12 5-1 for the Bears eased the pressure somewhat, with Charles Wright and Ellis Perks continuing their recent good form, and gave the Bears a 10 point cushion once again. However, with Jason Garrity having to withdraw from the meeting due to flu the Bandits stormed back into the meeting with two successive heat advantages meaning going into heat 15 the meeting was on the line. A 5-1 for the Bandits would have resulted in a draw, and a 5-1 for the Bears would have meant 3 points for Redcar and Berwick with nothing to show for their nights work. Charles Wright rode a superb race to claim the win in a tense finale, however the excellent Nick Morris edged out Ben Barker to ensure the Bandits got a deserved league point for their efforts. 

There is no home meeting for the Bears next week, with the Bears instead visiting Sheffield next Thursday. The next home meeting is against Workington on the 13th May.

Any motorcyclists attending the Media Prima Arena can now park their pride and joys within the stadium for that extra piece of mind. Whilst we are not aware of any incidents within the car park recent developments have reduced the size of flat ground available so we now allow the bikes to be parked behind the 2 nd bend stand in order to encourage more of our two wheeled friends to come to the speedway.

There will be no home meeting next week due the Bear’s visit to Sheffield on Thursday evening but there is a ‘race day’ in the Bear’s bar on Wednesday evening. 
The Bear’s are not at Newcastle this weekend and are awaiting a rescheduled date to be arranged.

After a good 7 days, the SG Petch Bears return to the Media Prima Arena this Thursday as they take on the Berwick Bandits in Championship action, with a prompt 7:30 start.
After the Bears comfortable win over Newcastle last week, the Bears also took two points from the clash away at Workington in a 45-45 draw.  Bears manager Jitendra Duffill reflected on the previous weeks meetings:

What a result that was last week! I expected a close meeting but our boys put in an awesome performance. Ellis is turning out to be one of the best reserves in the league and paid 17 points from him was a phenomenal return….he is impressing me hugely.  Our good start to the league campaign continued at Workington where we drew 45:45. Not many teams come away from Cumbria with any points and our top 4 showed just how strong they can be this year. I honestly believe that they are a match for anyone in the league. Unfortunately Ellis was very ill on Saturday and we possibly could have won had he of been fit. It was also good to see Richard on the pace and his points really didn’t reflect the efforts he put in on the day.

This week sees  the Berwick Bandits come to town, and a lot of familiar faces to Bears fans. Now led by Redcar legend Gary Havelock, a number of the Bandits riders have also rode for the Bears in the past. Redcar promoter Kevin Keay is expecting a tough encounter:

Thursday’s meeting against Berwick will be a test for the Bear’s due to Berwick’s recent changes. The Bandits now track former Bear’s in Jye Etheridge, Lee Payne and Kev Doolan and the rest of the side have had good meetings at Redcar previously so we need to be on top of our game.  With Lewis Bridger not available they bring in Steve Worrall who top scored for the Diamonds at Redcar only last week so this could be a lot closer than people think. We aim to make the Media Prima Arena a tough place to visit for visiting sides and want to be at them from the very first heat. 

The Bears will be at full strength for the meeting, again led by Jason Garrity who on Sunday qualified for the British Final. Ben Barker unfortunately missed out on qualification after losing in a run off for the final place, but will be looking to keep his excellent form going. Ellis Perks will also be looking for another good night after his superb 15+2 last week.
