    2020 Fixtures and League Structure

With the good news being announced this week that Newcastle will remain in the Championship League next year, we can now confirm the league structure for 2020.There will be 12 teams in the Championship, with each team racing 32 league fixtures. Every team will race each other once home and away, with the 6 ‘northern’ clubs racing each other again, as will the 6 ‘southern’ clubs.

This will give each Championship club 16 league fixtures at home, with the points scored at each meeting being added to the ONE league table, where the TOP 6 will qualify for the play offs. If Newcastle had not come to the tapes in 2020, the 11 team league would have been split into 2, with the top 3 from each group progressing to the play offs.We can also confirm that there will now be no Championship Shield, which would have taken place if there were only 11 teams in the Championship. This leaves each Championship team with 16 guaranteed home fixtures and at least 1 KO Cup fixture.

The Agilia Bears can also confirm that they will run the Teesside Silver Helmet and Julie Lewis Memorial meetings, as well as taking on a Premiership side in their first ever inter-league challenge on Friday 27th March. Redcar also hope to stage a popular, ex-Bear’s farewell meeting in 2020 and have applied to host a BSPA Shared Event.

This should give fans a packed calendar in 2020 and we are pleased to announce that season tickets will go on sale at 6pm today, now that the league structure has been confirmed. Keep an eye on our website and social media for the announcement later today.

Riss: Easy choice to come back to Redcar

German star Erik Riss admits it was not a tough choice to come back to Redcar after his very successful spell last season. Riss won the Championship Riders title at Sheffield last season, and was an integral part of the Bears success, finishing the season with a 8.41 average.

Riss admitted that once he knew he was riding in the Championship again, it was an easy choice for him to make. And despite winning the KO Cup this year, he is hoping to go one better in the league next season:

“I’m happy to say I’m going to be back at Redcar next year. I really enjoyed this year, and I really enjoyed riding at Redcar since the moment I joined. The promotion has been awesome and the fans have been awesome too.
It wasn’t really a hard choice once I decided to do the Championship next season. There wasn’t any other club where I would have liked to ride.

Last year was really good, it was just a shame that we could not go one further in the league but next year is a new year and hopefully we can take it one step further!”

    Stewart delighted to be back

Aussie star Jordan Stewart, whose signing was greeted with great applause when announced on Saturday night, has admitted he is delighted to be back at Redcar for his third season. In a video message played for the fans in attendance, he also told of his plans for the winter in Australia:

“I’m really looking forward to being back next year, it’s been a really good year this year! We won some trophies which was good and really enjoyed my time there. I learnt a lot, and I already can’t wait to see what next year brings and can’t wait to get the show on the road.

I’d like to thank Ben and Jade for having me back, it’s like a family at Redcar to me as well as every other rider.

I have busy few weeks in Australia, every weekend in November I have big meetings, and then it’s the Aussie Championships in January.

?? Xmas Party – Change of Venue ??

Due to popular demand, we have decided to change the venue for our Xmas party, which will now take place at The Hub, situated within Teesside University Students Union.
The Agilia Bears hosted their End Of Season Presentation Evening at The Hub in October, which is a spectacular venue.
Tickets for the Xmas Party sold out within hours of going on sale and the decision to move has been taken to allow more people to attend.
We have less than 50 tickets left, so please don’t wait if you are still planning on attending. Tickets remain at £8 including food, but we are no longer able to offer a free drink on the night due to the bar being the responsibility of the venue.
For those who have already reserved tickets, a free drinks voucher will still be issued and can be used at any future function or race fixture at the Media Prima Arena.

Bears announce first two for 2020

Redcar Agilia Bears are delighted to announce Erik Riss and Jordan Stewart as the first two riders for the 2020 season.

Both were part of our successful 2019 side, and we are delighted that they have agreed to come back for next season. Erik was a massive hit when he joined the side midway through last season, and ended the season on 8.41 average. Who can forget his Championship Riders win at Sheffield and his match winning display in the second leg of the KO Cup?

Jordan is back for his third season with the Bears, and will be looking to build on his excellent progress over the last couple of years. He had another good season in 2019, and finished with a 5.74 average. Probably the highlight of Jordan’s season was his superb showing in the Pairs at Somerset where he scored 13 points.

Welcome back to the Bears lads! We hope to be in a position to announce the rest of our side at our Christmas party on the 14th December.
