Redcar ‘ECCO Finishing Supplies’ Bears fell to their second successive home defeat, losing to a strong Scunthorpe side 54-36 on Thursday night.

On a tough night for the Bears, the away side got their noses in front after 3 heats and never looked back. The Bears only managed 4 heat wins, with German star Tobias Busch getting two of those on his way to a 9 point score. Ben Barker rode hard for his 8+3 score, with Matej Kus and Jonas B Andersen getting the other heat wins for the Bears.

For Scunthorpe, guest Ricky Wells top scored with a excellent 13+1, whilst ex-Bear Jason Garrity had an interesting evening. He was involved in a clash with Barker after heat 6 had finished, whilst also being involved in the incident which somehow saw Jonas B Andersen excluded from heat 9. 

Bears promoter Kevin Keay was disappointed with the manner of the defeat:

It was an embarrassing defeat , far from happy with the riders inconsistency and we simply are not providing enough race winners. We will look at all our options over the next few weeks and see where we might improve all aspects of our performances both on and off track.

The Bears are next in action tomorrow evening away at Scunthorpe, this time in league action. Next Thursday sees the Julie Lewis Memorial meeting take place at the Media Prima Arena.

Redcar ‘ECCO Finishing Supplies’ Bears are aiming to restore some pride, as they take on Scunthorpe at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night (7:30pm start).

After last weeks 51-39 defeat against Sheffield, the Bears can no longer qualify from there group in the Championship Shield. They will wounded after last weeks defeat though, and will be keen to get back to winning ways this week. Team boss Jitendra Duffill was bitterly disappointed with last weeks performance:

Without wanting to state the obvious, there were some areas of concern last week and the team and myself had some very honest discussions between us after the meeting. We know our performance wasn’t good enough and we need to see some vast improvements this week. We can do better and we had proved that the week before against a Newcastle side that have done very well since we beat them. 

Scunthorpe come to Teesside with a side tipped to do very well by the pundits. And whilst they are missing number 1 Steve Worrall due to injury, they have a powerful looking side. Ricky Wells will guest for Worrall, whilst the Scorpions can boast the likes of Jason Garrity and Josh Auty amongst their ranks. Duffill knows the Scorpions, and Garrity in particular will be strong:

This week we face another side who are well tipped to do well in 2018.  Scunthorpe have started 2018 well and bring with them riders who have plenty of experience riding our circuit. They are also looking to top our Championship Shield group so they have plenty of motivation. Jason Garrity will be a big threat and there is sure to be plenty of excitement on track whenever he is racing. Ben certainly won’t want to be beaten by him so their encounters could be very interesting.

The Bears are back to full strength, with Tobias Busch and Matej Kus returning after their SEC meeting last week. There is a change in the riding order however, as Tobias Busch now has a new average which puts him in the main body of the team. Young Aussie Jordan Stewart will drop down to reserve. Duffill believes his side have a lot to prove this week:

We have a lot to prove this week and that should be enough motivation for us. It hurts me to lose at home and I want to see a good response from our side. We can’t progress further in our cup group but there is plenty of pride at stake and that is just as important.

Redcar ‘ECCO Finishing Supplies’ Bears found it hard going on Friday night, against the champions Sheffield, in a 51-39 defeat.

It was another slow start from the Bears, who found themselves 8 points down after 5 heats. Against a Sheffield team that always goes well around the Media Prima Arena, it was always going to be a tough ask to get back into the meeting. Despite the scoreline however, the fans were treated to some excellent racing from both sides.

The star of the show for the Bears was again guest Ty Proctor who top scored with 11+1. Bears skipper Ben Barker battled hard for his ten points, with Jonas B Andersen scoring 7. Ex-Bear Charles Wright was the top scorer for Sheffield, with an excellent 15 points. Busy James Shanes was arguably the star man for Sheffield though, with 10+3 from his 7 rides.

The Bears are next in action next Thursday against Scunthorpe in the Championship Shield.

Redcar ‘ECCO Finishing Supplies’ Bears have moved to fill a couple of spare Thursdays in May by re-arranging two of their postponed meetings.

On the 3rd May, the Bears will host Scunthorpe in the Championship Shield, whilst on the 10th the re-staging of the Julie Lewis Memorial Meeting will take place. The lineup for that will be announced in due course.

All supporters travelling to tonight’s meeting via the A66 eastbound, please be advised that due to the serious crash earlier this week that one lane is currently closed between Marton Road turn off and the Riverside Stadium turnoff.

This is likely to cause some delays, so please allow a few extra minutes onto your journey tonight. 

Redcar ‘ECCO Finishing Supplies’ Bears put in a brave performance away at Sheffield on Thursday night, but ultimately fell just short in a 49-40 defeat. 

In a meeting slightly delayed due to a heavy shower just before the start, the Bears started off well. Thanks to heat wins from Theo Pijper, and guest Ty Proctor the Bears led by two points after 4 heats. Sheffield fought back well, and after 9 heats had a ten point lead, before an eventful heat 10 5-0 for the Bears saw them claw back some of the deficit. 

Against last seasons champions, the Bears could just not quite hang on for a point despite their brave performance. Guest Ty Proctor top scored with 12+1, with support from Mikkel B Andersen (7+2) and Ben Barker (7). Ex-Bear Charles Wright top scored for the Tigers, with 13 points.

The Bears will be hoping for swift revenge, with Redcar hosting Sheffield at the Media Prima Arena tomorrow night (7:30pm start).
