The S.G.Petch Bear’s head to Scunthorpe today for the their first SGB Championship match and are confident of good performance at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The Bear’s have Ellis Perks returning to the side and that should add a bit of bite to the reserves as they look to bounce back from the disappointment of exiting the cup.
With natural racers in Jason Garrity and Ben Barker on track with a host of hungry Bear’s behind them against a good Scorpions side action is guaranteed so don’t miss the 3 o’clock start time.
It’s also a ‘ double header’ with a Scunthorpe junior side taking on a Halifax seven featuring Redcar Cubs Carl Basford so don’t rush off too soon.

​Former Bear’s rider Jade  Mudgway will be the Bears team manager at Scunthorpe this Sunday due to Jitendra’s absence. The Bears go to the Eddie Wright Raceway looking to bounce back from their exit from the K.O. Cup and with Ellis Perks returning to the side the team are very positive about their chances around the fast Scunthorpe circuit.

Redcar SG Petch Bears failed to progress in the KO Cup after losing 44-46 to the Peterborough Panthers on Thursday evening, meaning a 83-95 defeat on aggregate.
Peterborough started strongly on the night, and after 3 heats led by 10 points on the night and the Bears never really recovered. 

Despite the defeat, there were still some positives for the Bears however with Jason Garrity and in particular Ben Barker pulling out some impressive rides. Heat 11 was a great example of this, with Barker and Jack Holder passing and repassing before Barker took the win on the last bend. Heat 13 and Heat 15 also saw some great racing with Garrity and Barker getting 5-1s in both heats. Barker top scored for the Bears with 13+1 with Garrity supporting well with 12+1.

For the Panthers, captain Ulrich Ostergaard top scored with 11 points, with the impressive Paul Starke scoring 10+2. 

The Bears are next at home against Ipswich in Championship action next Thursday, and also face Scunthorpe this Sunday at Scunthorpe.

Congratulations to SG Petch Bears reserve Ellis Perks, who last night qualified for the British U21 Final to be held on the 26th April.
Ellis started off with two last places in his first two rides, the first with a mechanical issue whilst leading and the second falling whilst battling for the lead. He then reeled off three impressive wins to qualify with 9 points.

The meeting was won by Poole’s James Shanes.

This Thursday sees the SG Petch Bears take on Peterborough Panthers in the second leg of the KO Cup at the Media Prima Arena, with a 7:30pm start.
The Bears trail by 10 after the 49-39 defeat at Peterborough on Sunday, and Bears team manager Jitendra Duffill is hopeful that the Bears can pull back the deficit to progress to the next round:

10 points is definitely salvageable and it sets the 2nd leg of this tie up nicely from a spectators point of view. Our boys are fired up for this one and we will see them give everything Thursday to see us progress to the next round of the cup. . We can consider ourselves very unlucky that the scoreline was not a lot closer in the first leg. Engine failures whilst in scoring positions for both Ellis and Richard cost us at least 4 points. 

German star Tobias Busch was unfortunately injured early in that meeting, and has been replaced by Argentine Coty Garcia who comes in as a short term replacement. Garcia has shown a liking for the MPA in the past and the Bears will be hoping for more of the same from him. The undoubted star on Sunday was Charles Wright, with the popular Brit scoring a 15 point maximum. Duffill was delighted with his contribution:

I have to give a special mention to Charles Wright who was absolutely superb at Peterborough.  His 15 point maximum was hard-earned and was the first of his career. That’s 3 maximums in 3 meetings for a Bears rider now and the battle for the number 1 race jacket could be very interesting in 2017.

Last Thursday saw an impressive performance from the Bears against a solid Russ Hodgson select side, with the Bears winning 57-35. Duffill is confident of an exciting night ahead on Thursday:

Last week we nearly hit 60 points against a decent Russ Hodgson Select side. I have a lot of confidence in our side and this cup tie is far from over. Thursday’s fixture promises to be a very exciting 2nd leg. Thanks for your support. Up the Bears! 

There is a further change at reserve for the Bears, with Ellis Perks riding for his Championship club Rye House at Swindon. Scunthorpe’s Josh Bailey will guest in his place. Peterborough are led by Aussie Jack Holder, brother of Chris, and in Kenneth Hansen and Ulrich Ostergaard certainly have riders who know the fastest way round the MPA. Impressive reserve Bradley Wilson-Dean also misses the meeting for the Panthers, with Nike Lunna guesting in his place.

The SG Petch Bears have moved swiftly to cover for the injured Tobias Busch by signing Coty Garcia, pending clearance, on a 28 day loan period. Redcar would like to thank Berwick for their co-operation and hope that Coty can reproduce some of the form Bears saw from him last season.

Busch has returned back home to Germany for rest and treatment on his injured ankle and has been informed he will be welcome back to the Media Prima Arena when he is fully fit and ready.

The top ten riders tonight will join the 6 seeded riders in the final at Poole on April 26th.

​The S.G.Petch Bears face a massive battle on Thursday to stay in the cup after a controversial encounter at Peterborough on a Sunday.

Signs were encouraging after the Bears led 14-10 after 4 heats but then a coming together between former Bear Ulrich Østergaard and Tobias Busch left Busch with a suspected broken ankle and gave the Panthers a 5-0 after Garrity had already fallen.

The Panthers built on the Bears frustration with the referee being the only one in the stadium not to see a Panthers rider illegally cut across the centre green to the start line and Perks blowing both of his engines and Hall suffering two snapped chains costing valuable points.

But with Ben Barker battling every ride and Charles Wright a class above the rest recording a full 15 point maximum the Bears managed to keep the damage down to a ten point deficit for the return leg at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday which promises to be an epic battle.

Can the Bears bite back ?

Redcar SG Petch Bears travel to Peterborough Panthers this afternoon in the first leg of the KO Cup, with a 5pm start. It’s a meeting that has a little bit of extra spice, as the Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone is a Middesbrough man and a regular attendee at the Media Prima Arena!

Both teams will go into the meeting with plenty of confidence – the Bears after their comfortable win on Thursday over a Russ Hodgson select whilst the PAnthers have completed back to back wins over the Scunthorpe Scorpions in league action.

The meeting will be followed by round 1 of the British Youth Championships, with the second leg of the KO Cup taking place back at Redcar on Thursday evening.
