Redcar SG Petch Bears will be looking for a repeat of last weeks thriller against Glasgow, as they take on the Edinburgh Monarchs at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night (7:30pm).

With a depleted side last week, not many people will have predicted the Bears to come out on top, and Bears manager Jitendra Duffill was on cloud 9 after the meeting. He was delighted with the whole side, but in particular Jason Garrity and Ben Barker in heats 13 and 15:

What a night that was last Thursday.  I don’t think I stopped smiling for 2 days after. We were so determined to beat Glasgow after the events that took place when we first met and that victory meant a lot and will live long in the memory. It was good to see Ben and Jason back on top form last week. Heats 13 and 15 were a bit special and that really is what speedway is all about. Tobi contributed well and definitely benefited from the change in track prep’ we requested whereas Jonas and Ellis came to the party with important points when it mattered.  Everybody responded superbly to our team talk during the interval and credit to all of them for that.

This week sees the Bears come up against the side sitting in fourth in the league – and to have a realistic chance of making the playoffs need to ensure they pick up the win and gain some ground. Duffill is expecting a tough but hopefully exciting meeting again:

This weeks fixture is another huge one for us and also for our guests Edinburgh. There is still an outside chance that we can snatch that last play off spot and this is an opportunity for us to gain a little ground on the Monarchs.  Having said that, it’s also a great opportunity for our visitors to pull further away and defeat this week would surely end any hopes we have of catching them. This one has the potential to be a very exciting meeting and I want to see the same determination and aggression that our boys showed against Glasgow. Mitchell Davey did a great job for us last week at reserve and he can be a threat this week alongside Max Clegg for Edinburgh. 

The Bears are back to full strength for this meeting, with Charles Wright and Danny Ayres returning to the side after missing last week’s clash. Edinburgh are still without Sam Masters who is out injured, ex-Bears favourite Ty Proctor will replace him.

The Redcar Bears roadshow will be supporting their sponsors on Tuesday evening by crewing a stall at the Pit Stop Cafe on Bowesfield Lane, Stockton on Tuesday evening. Supported by our friends from S.G.Petch ( Middlesbrough) and Crofton Court Motorcycles there will be a bike or two on display in amongst the array of other bikes and products for the public to see from around 6:30.

Redcar SG Petch Bears defied all the odds to defeat the Glasgow Tigers 47-42 at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night. The depleted Bears were missing both Charles Wright and Danny Ayres, and with Jason Garrity and Tobias Busch not quite 100% it was going to take a great effort to get the win.

The Bears started off the meeting fairly well, although after 7 heats were trailing by 8 points to a good Glasgow side. Heat 8 was arguably the turning point for Redcar. With Tom Perry already being excluded, Glasgows Nike Lunna was leading the rerun comfortably. He then hit some grip and was sent tumbling.He was excluded, and would take no further part in the meeting. The resulting 5-0 for the Bears reduced deficit to ythree and gave them real hope of getting a positive result.

Three successive 4-2s gave the Bears a three point advantage, and going into Heat 15 only a Glasgow 5-1 could prevent a Bears win. The superb Ben Barker took the chequered flag, and with partner Jason Garrity finishing third the Bears took the win. Barker top scored for the Bears with 13 with Garrity getting 12 and Tobias Busch scoring 9+1. For the Tigers, Richie Worrall and impressive starlet Dan Bewley both scored 11.

Redcar SG Petch Bears will now run rider replacement for Charles Wright in this evenings clash with Glasgow. Ulrich Ostergaard was originally down to ride but unfortunately aggravated an injury and had to pull out. A huge number of riders were tried to guest instead, but with no success for varying reasons. 

The Bears have also been hit with the late withdrawal of Danny Ayres due to food poisoning. He will be replaced by Mitchell Davey. 

Due to aggravating an injury Ulrich Østergaard has withdrawn from his guest booking for the Bears tomorrow evening. There is no news of a replacement as yet and it is possible the the Bears will use the rider replacement facility if no suitable guest can be found.

With Charles Wright riding for Somerset this week and therefore unavailable the S.G.Petch Bears have brought in former Redcar rider Ulrich Østergaard to replace him against the Glasgow Tigers on Thursday.

“Ulrich rode well for us last time we called on him and although he took a knock at Berwick on Saturday he has kindly accepted the booking to help out his former club . With Jason Garrity and Tobias Busch still not 100% it was felt we needed a good guest as cover rather than risk using the rider replacement facility against a very strong Tigers outfit.”
“We will need to be firing on all cylinders if we are to win this one and are looking for a very vocal support from our loyal Bears fans to motivate the lads as I’m sure the Tigers will be bringing a good number of fans as they expect to continue their good run of form ” said promoter Kevin Keay.

The S.G.Petch Bears will have a special guest attending the Media Prima Arena for this Thursday’s tough encounter against Glasgow. Former Middlesbrough and Teesside rider Geoff Pusey will be attending the meeting as a guest of the Bears and looks forward to meeting old acquaintances from his days at Cleveland Park.

“Geoff was small of stature but big of heart and a loyal club servant for over 10 seasons so he deserves a half pint on the club” said promoter Kevin Keay. It will be another hard fought contest as we will be missing Charles Wright ( riding for Somerset) and we await news on Jason Garrity’s fitness but we need to get back to winning ways and we would dearly love to put the record straight against Glasgow. I’d love to see the fans out in force on Thursday and give the Bears riders some serious vocal support as we seek to keep the season alive with a top five finish.

Redcar SG Petch Bears lost 48-42 at Workington last night, enough to give them a losing league point. 

It was another close meeting throughout, with the Bears leading by six points after four heats. Unfortunately, after his first ride Jason Garrity had to withdraw after suffering a recurrence of an old injury. We will bring you any news on that when we have it – best wishes to Jason. 

The six remaining Bears battled hard, but the excellent Craig Cook and the Comets were just too good on the night. Ben Barker top scored for the Bears with 11, with Jonas B Andersen scoring 10.

Redcar SG Petch Bears fell to a disappointing  49-41 defeat at home to an admittedly impressive Sheffield team on Friday night at the Media Prima Arena.

Sheffield are currently top of the Championship, and showed why on what was a close night until heat 15. The Bears only registered 3 heat winners all night, with two of the Tigers recording paid maximums on their way to a 4 point league win.

Despite the eventual scoreline, it was tight throughout the meeting, and indeed going into heat 13 the scores were tied at 36-36. The impressive Richard Lawson, guesting for Josh Grajczonek , and Kyle Howarth led the Tigers to a 5-1 which gave them a 4 point cushion. Going into the final heat, the Bears needed a 5-1 from exciting pair Ben Barker and Jason Garrity – however it was Howarth and Lawson again who made the gate and sped away for another Sheffield maximum.

Sponsors man of the meeting Charles Wright top scored with 9, with Jason Garrity and Ben Barker getting 8+1 and 8 respectively. The Bears are next in action tomorrow night away at Workington, before facing high flying Glasgow at home next Thursday.
