Due to Josh Grajczonek suffering an injury during Sheffield’s win against Workington last night, he will be unable to take his place for the Tigers tonight. Glasgow’s Richard Lawson will guest in his place.

Due to a Karting event taking place this weekend additional parking spaces for Speedway fans have been sourced opposite the speedway car park behind the old council building. This will be free to park but fans are advised to attend the meeting slightly earlier to allow for minor parking congestion.

Friday night is speedway night this week, as the Redcar SG Petch Bears take on table topping Sheffield Tigers at the Media Prima Arena with the normal 7:30pm start.

The Bears will be looking to continue their good home form, after beating Berwick 54-39 last week and keep the pressure on the top 4 as the season begins to enter its final stages. They will also be buoyed by the excellent second place at the Championship Fours last Sunday, a result that will no doubt give the whole side confidence. Jonas B Andersen will unfortunately be missing the meeting with Sheffield, as he is riding in his native Denmark. Rider replacement will operate in his place. With the new averages now out, Ben Barker takes his place at number 1 after a superb run of form this season.

Sheffield come to the MPA sitting proudly on top of the table as things stand, and are looking good for a play-off place. It will certainly be another tricky test for the Bears, with the Tigers team containing a number of riders who can score big points at the Teesside track. Big hitter Josh Grajczonek has consistently hit top scores this season, whilst Josh Bates has had an excellent couple of years for his hometown club. The Tigers also contain ex-Bear Jan Graverson at reserve, who is a fairly new signing for the visitors. Jan certainly knows the quick way around the MPA, and indeed won the Silver Helmet meeting a couple of seasons ago. Unfortunately, Lasse Bjerre is still suffering the effects of a knee injury and will miss the meeting. Rider replacement will also operate for him.

The Redcar S.G.Petch Bears management would like to thank the riders and fans for their excellent performance at Peterborough in the ‘Fours’ event yesterday. “Whilst the riders, all five of them, gave it everything it was great to see the large turnout of Bears supporters with their flags waving and drum banging” said promoter Kevin Keay.

“It was nip and tuck in the semi final but we managed to pip Newcastle and then we stepped it up a gear in the final and to finish second to Peterborough is something we can be proud of.
It was a great gesture for Ben Barker to give his pre-meeting medal away to a young Bears fan before the meeting but Ben is only interested in winning and it was a little disappointing that there was no official presentation on the day for a great effort by the boys.

This was through no fault of Peterborough so we will put this right on Friday with our tough encounter with Sheffield who should also be congratulated for their third place finish yesterday.”

Huge congratulations go out to the Redcar SG Petch Bears who today finished second in the Championship Fours meeting at Peterborough. Jason Garrity, Ben Barker, Jonas B Andersen, Charles Wright and Ellis Perks represented the Bears in fine style all afternoon. The Bears finished second in the semi final with 13 points, finishing behind Ipswich and knocking out Newcastle, Glasgow and Berwick. Wright top scored for the Bears with 5 points in his two rides.

The final pitted the Bears with Ipswich, Sheffield and the hosts Peterborough. The Bears started the final well, with the Bears and Peterborough making the early running. After 8 heats of the final there was only 3 points separating the Panthers in first place and the Bears in second. Unfortunately the Panthers proved too strong in the final heats, led by the impressive duo of Chris Harris and Ulrich Ostergaard. It was a superb by the effort by the Bears though and a massive well done to the lads!

Also, big congratulations to the Peterborough Panthers on their win!

Redcar SG Petch Bears kept up their charge for a play-off spot with a 54-39 win over the Berwick Bandits at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night.

On a night punctuated with a number of restarts, the Bears took control of the meeting early on and led by 8 after 4 heats. Heat 5 produced the heat of night, with ex-Bear Jye Etheridge taking a superb victory over Ben Barker and Jonas B Andersen. All 3 riders swapped places throughout the heat but Jye held on superbly. Sadly for Jye, and Berwick, his night was brought to a premature end after a nasty looking fall in heat 8. The young Aussie picked up some unexpected grip in the first bend and took a spectacular tumble, and left the track in an ambulance with a suspected leg injury. We all wish Jye a speedy recovery.

From that point the result was never in too much doubt, with the Bears heatleaders all in superb form. Skipper Ben Barker again top scored with 14, but was supported well by Wright, Garrity and Andersen with 9+2, 9 and 8+3 respectively. For the Bandits, guest Steve Worrall top scored with 12, with Etheridge scoring 8 and the evergreen Kevin Doolan with 7+1.

The Bears are next in action at home on Friday 11th against Sheffield, but of course will be competing in the Championship Fours event at Peterborough on Sunday.

Team GB Star Steve Worrall will guest for the Berwick Bandits tonight against the Redcar SG Petch Bears. Worrall, who became a Dad earlier this week, replaces Nick Morris who is riding for Swindon in the Premier League.

Reminder for all SG Petch Bears fans that the racenight to raise funds for Ellis Perks takes place tonight at the Bears Bar. Doors open at 7, admission is £5 which includes a pie and pea supper.

There will be a raffle and all the usual fun and games, plus Ellis will be in attendance to answer any questions you may have, pose for photographs etc.

Redcar SG Petch Bears will aim to build on last weeks victory against Workington, as they take on the Berwick Bandits at the Media Prima Arena this Thursday (7:30pm).

The Bears ran out 49-44 winners last Thursday, and whilst manager Jitendra Duffill was pleased with the victory but slightly disappointed Workington escaped with a league point:

I was pleased with last weeks performance against Workington and we deserved the 3 points we took from the meeting. Again we saw a good, all round performance from our boys. It was disappointing to ‘gift’ them a point as I feel that we should have send them home empty handed. Ours boys were a little too keen at times and I spoke with them after about picking their moments to pass. Exclusions could have proved costly in the end and we should have won by a bigger margin. Having said that, I will never give out boys a hard time about trying too hard as I would rather they do that than ride around at the back waiting for somebody to make a mistake.

Duffill was also pleased with the form of Jason Garrity and Tobias Busch. Both riders have had long spells out of the side with injury this season, but they both rode well on Thursday. And whilst delighted with their performances, is keen to not too much pressure on the pair:

It was great to see Jason Garrity back to his old self. He was the Jason we saw before his injury and it was only a matter of time before he regained form. He’s a bubbly character and we saw a different person off track as well as on it. He can put a bit too much pressure on himself at times and I’d asked him to try and enjoy racing his bike without thinking too much about the politics surrounding it. Tobias Busch was excellent and he showed just why we were so keen to bring him back into the side. His speed and track craft were even more impressive if you take into consideration that he still isn’t 100% fit and is clearly in some discomfort after races. I don’t want to put him under too much pressure and I won’t ask him to do extra rides until he tells me he is ready for it. We need to be patient and let him regain fitness before I can use him more but it will be worth the wait.

This week sees Berwick Bandits come to town. The Bandits have had a difficult season, and are again struck by injury problems. New signing Nikolai Busk Jacobsen injured his shoulder in his first meeting for the Bandits and is not unfortunately out for the remainder of the season. Berwick will operate rider replacement for him. Nick Morris is also missing as he is riding for Swindon, a guest will be brought in for him (tbc). Despite the ill-fortune of the Bandits, Duffill is not taking anything for granted:

This week we welcome the Berwick Bandits and my good friend Gary Havelock back to the Media Prima Arena. Berwick haven’t had the best of times so far in this years SGB Championship but they are a different side to the one that started 2017 and they made life difficult for us last time we met. You can never underestimate anybody because you can end up looking very foolish if you do. We really need to take another 3 points from this fixture and we can’t afford any more slip up’s at home.
