Redcar SG Petch Bears take on familiar opponents this Thursday, as the Peterborough Panthers return to the Media Prima Arena in the second of 3 clashes between the teams this week (7:30pm start).

Whilst the Bears suffered defeat away to Peterborough on Sunday, they did record a convincing win at home against Scunthorpe last Thursday. It was an excellent all round performance from the Bears, and manager Jitendra Duffill was delighted with the result:

Last week I asked our riders to bounce back after our defeat to Peterborough (the previous Thursday) and they couldn’t have responded any better. I can’t remember the last time we hit 60 points and although I am not a fan of one sided meetings, it’s always nice to give somebody a good thrashing every now and then and I have to say I really enjoyed that one.

Everybody was superb

The Bears go into this meeting back to full strength for the first time in a long while. Jason Garrity came through Sundays meeting ok and returns at number 1, whilst Tobias Busch makes his long awaited return from injury to replace Coty Garcia at reserve. Duffill admits it has been hard to cover for Garrity, and paid tribute to Garcia:

This week we welcome back both Jason Garrity and Tobias Busch. Hopefully our luck is changing as a full side will give us the best chance of success this season. Jason has been difficult to cover with guests but I have been very pleased with the job that Coty Garcia has done for us. He has been a pleasure to work with and I am sad to see him go.

Duffill is, though, pleased to have Busch back in the ranks. The popular German has been suffering with an ankle injury this season sustained at Peterborough and is not fit to retake his place in the side. Duffill is excited to have him back, although stresses the need for patience after a long lay off:

I’m very excited to have Tobias back and the prospect of having him and Danny at reserve puts a big smile on my face. There is surely no better reserve pairing anywhere in the Championship and they can be our trump cards from here on.

Please be patient with Tobias. He is playing catch up but I have no doubt that he will score heavily at reserve once he finds his feet. There is nobody he cannot beat around the Media Prima Arena and he could be the key to stamping some authority on our home track.

Our opponents on Thursday will come to the MPA full of confidence after their win here a couple of weeks ago. Jack Holder leads the team at number 1 and is in an excellent vein of form at the moment. Unfortunately Chris Harris and Bradley Wilson-Dean are both riding in Premier League action and are therefore unavailable. Richie Worrall and Nike Lunna will guest for the pair.

It certainly promises to be another exciting night of Speedway – can the Bears finally beat their bogey team?

Redcar SG Petch Bears fell to a 51-42 defeat at Peterborough this afternoon in Championship action.

With Jason Garrity returning to action, and Charles Wright being deemed fit to ride the Bears fielded a full strength 1-7 for the first time in a good while.
It was not enough to help them avoid defeat however, with Chris Harris and Jack Holder leading the Panthers to victory. Ben Barker top scored for the Bears with 15+1 with good support from Wright with 8.

The Bears have a quick chance to exact revenge however, as the Panthers are the visitors to the Media Prima Arena this Thursday night.

Redcar SG Petch Bears returned to winning ways on Thursday night, with a convincing 61-32 victory over the Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Media Prima Arena.

After last weeks defeat to the Peterborough Panthers, the Bears needed a win to get their play off chances back on track and they started off tonight in electric fashion. Four 5-1s and a 4-2 in the opening 5 races saw the Bears take a 24-6 lead and they never looked back. It was a dominating performance by the Bears, and although Lewis Kerr took the chequered flag whilst wearing the black and white helmet, Scunthorpe never looked like getting back into the meeting.

All 7 Bears recorded at least a paid win on the night, with only 1 last place all meeting. Ben Barker was the star of the show, recording a paid 18 point maximum and earning himself the rider of the night award. It was another impressive night from Jonas B Andersen, with the popular Dane scoring 14 and Ellis Perks continued his good form with 9+4. Coty Garcia also had a good night on what might be his last home meeting as a Bear, with promoter Kevin Keay announcing Tobias Busch hopes to be back at some point next week to replace the Argentine who has become a crowd favourite.

For Scunthorpe, Lewis Kerr provided good resistance with 13 points but the rest of the Scorpions found points tough to come by against a determined Bears side. The Bears are next in action away at Peterborough on Sunday, but there is some action at the Media Prima Arena this Saturday. The latest round of the British Youth Championship takes place at 2pm, with admission just £1 to see over 50 heats of racing. We hope to see as many of you as possible to see the future of British Speedway.

Redcar SG Petch Bears will be looking to get their play off charge back on track, as they take on the Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Media Prima Arena on Thursday night (7:30pm start).
The Bears suffered a frustrating defeat at home to Peterborough last week, with the Bears struggling to contain the fast starting visitors. Bears manager Jitendra Duffill admits it was a disappointing evening:

It was hugely disappointing to lose at home last week. Peterborough dominated the meeting early on and we paid the price for getting off to such a slow start. Losing Danny and Charles in heat 7 was a massive blow and there was no coming back from that. It’s put a serious dent in our play off hopes and has undone a lot of the hard work we have put in away from home so far this year.

Charles Wright suffered concussion in that heat 7 fall, and will miss the meeting as he is now forced to rest for 9 days before riding again. The Bears will operate Rider Replacement for him. With Jason Garrity still just short of fitness, and hoping to return in the Bears fixture at Peterborough on Sunday, Aaron Summers will guest in his place. Duffill has sympathy with Wright, and is not expecting an easy time against a Scunthorpe side with a point to prove:

This week’s fixture will not be made any easier with the absence of Charles Wright. I really feel for him as he has simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time too many times this year. Using rider replacement means that everybody has to step up and we cannot afford to underestimate Scunthorpe. Even though they have struggled on the whole in 2017, they have some very capable riders amongst their ranks and will be keen to make up for the points we have taken at their place this year.

Scunthorpe have Michael Palm Toft returning to the number 1 spot after the last set of averages were released, with Tero Aarnio returning to the reserve spot. Lewis Kerr performed well for us while guesting a few weeks ago, whilst Josh Auty and Carl Wilkinson know the fastest way round the Media Arena Prima so it all adds up to being an exciting meeting!

The S.G.Petch Bears bring in former fans favourite Aaron Summers as the replacement for Jason Garrity this coming Thursday against Scunthorpe Scorpions. Summers had a successful spell with the Bears and always scores well at Redcar. With Charles Wright having to miss this meeting with concussion it’s vital to have some additional scoring power and Summers should certainly provide that.

Meanwhile Garrity is looking to be back in the Bears side very shortly with a final medical clearance due soon. “It would be nice to think we could get our full side out before the end of the month ” said promoter Kevin Keay as we also await the latest on Tobias Busch’s fitness. “We need to clarify everyone’s fitness very soon as there’s a transfer deadline at the end of the month and we don’t want to be left in a last minute panic. We also need to look after Coty Garcia so he knows his future as I believe in treating riders with respect. We will keep our word to both Tobias and Coty and they both know the situation. We intend to battle all the way to try and stay in the top four and there’s lots of twists to happen yet both home and away with fixtures still to be finalised”

The SG Petch Bears will also be having our annual collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund. This collection is always supported wonderfully by Bears fans, and know this year will be no different, especially with the number of injuries suffered by the Bears this season.

Both Charles Wright and Danny Ayres were released from James Cook Hospital early yesterday morning and have happily not suffered any long term injuries.

Danny is battered , bruised and confused as to how he got excluded for being hit from behind and Charles is still very concussed and trying to rescue parts from his bike having wrecked the hole machine through no fault of his own.
Both riders will need time to recover and Charles will be looking at another spell on the sidelines.
