Redcar stalwart Charles Wright is looking forward to the new campaign, branding the “Agilia” Bears side as an “exciting outfit” ahead of the 2025 Cab Direct Championship season.

2024 saw the Bears fail to make the play-offs for the first time since 2018 and the skipper admits he took the Bears poor start to the season to heart, ” I took it to heart more, especially when I had an off night. When I sat back and looked back, I was doing everything I could but looking ahead, we have three strong heat leaders and I am looking forward to an exciting campaign.”

The Redcar legend is thrilled that 2023 Bear Erik Riss has agreed a return to the ECCO Arena in 2025, ” Having Erik back balances the team and if our three heat leaders can perform, it takes the pressure off the rest of the side. Erik is a top rider and he can help us enormously.”

The 2023 CLRC champion is also looking forward to Danny King’s return to full fitness after a hand injury blighted much of his 2024 campaign. Wright said, ” Danny is an out and out number one, his hand is now fixed and make no mistake, he’s a class rider.”

The former British Champion is also pleased to see Jason Edwards and Jake Mulford return to Redcar, with the captain believing both have a lot more to offer. Wright explained, ” Jason is a bit of a slow burner in terms of his development but he’s maturing really well and going in the right direction. This year he won’t have the pressure of being the third heat leader which will help him and the side. Jake had a really good 2024 and this year he will progress even more now he’s in the main body of the side.”

Wright is also looking forward to helping Redcar’s two new recruits, Ace Pijper and Tom Spencer at reserve. The skipper explained, ” I will help both of the boys where I can but we have more experience in the side this season so we can all chip in and help Ace and Tom out. Ace has had a few years of Championship experience with Glasgow but with Redcar, he should be able to perform without pressure which will help him. Tom is pretty new to me but the promotion have obviously seen something in him from the National League and again, there will be no pressure on him. Also, don’t forget, we also have Danny (King) and Erik (Riss) who can help not just the reserves out, but everyone out.”

The fans favourite also believes the departures of riders such as Ben Cook has evened out the Cab Direct Championship. Wright said, ” With Ben (Cook), Josh (Pickering) and Tom (Brennan) moving on from the league, the teams look a lot more balanced and the league has the makings of a very interesting one in 2025.”

Redcar boss Gavin Parr believes the club can look forward to 2025 after the Redcar “Agilia” Bears class of 2025 was announced in front of a packed clubhouse at the ECCO Arena last night. 

The Redcar promotion have retained the services of Charles Wright, Danny King, Jason Edwards and Jake Mulford whilst Erik Riss makes a welcome return to the Bears as a heat leader. Additionally, the club have secured the services of the exciting Ace Pijper whilst Tom Spencer makes his Cab Direct Championship debut with the Bears at reserve alongside Pijper. 

The headline signing was the return of Erik Riss to Redcar with Parr revealing he was desperate for the German to don Bears colours again. Parr said, “ When the points limit was set at 40 points, I wanted Erik back in the side, he has been a huge part of the club since 2019 and he is someone I enjoy working with. When he was last with us in 2022, he had his health problems and with the points limit being 38 last season, we couldn’t fit him in which we were naturally disappointed with.”

Parr is also delighted that he has retained the services of his two top stars from last season, Charles Wright and Danny King. Parr said, “ My relationship with Charles has developed really well in the last couple of seasons, Charles is Redcar through and through and I couldn’t imagine Redcar without him. Danny didn’t have his best season last year, he struggled with his injury but with that getting sorted before the new year, I am confident he can increase his average.”

The passionate team boss is also ecstatic to welcome back Jason Edwards and Jake Mulford to the club. Parr said, “ Jason’s average has increased season on season for the Bears and if he can do that again, then he will be pushing the three heat leaders. In Jake’s (Mulford’s) case, he moves into the main body of the side from reserve. Jake has so much ability but he just needs to believe in himself more, there is absolutely no reason why he cannot go from strength to strength in 2025.”

The club promotion have refreshed their reserves this season with Ace Pijper returning to the Cab Direct Championship after his 2024 mid-season release from Glasgow whilst Tom Spencer makes his full-time second tier bow with the Bears and Parr is excited to see what the British duo can offer. Parr said, “ There is absolutely no pressure on either of our reserves, we tried to sign Ace after the Silver Helmet in 2019 but with him still being at school he moved to Glasgow, partly for logistical reasons. Ace upped his average last season so if he can do that again for Redcar I will be a happy man. In Tom’s case, he is making his full debut at this level so there will be no pressure on him. I used to ride against Tom when he started in speedway, I think he is a bit of a slow burner, a little like Jason Edwards but if he can go out there and win heat two, I will be over the moon.”

Finally, after the Bears have been hit with pre-season injuries in recent seasons, Parr is keen to keep his chosen septet together. Parr said, “ I don’t need any good luck, just no bad luck. I would like a bit of Poole’s luck as they seem to be able to keep their sides away from injuries so I would like a little bit of that to come our way.”

The club shop will be open at the track this Saturday evening during the Christmas party and Saturday the 14th, 10am to 12pm to pick up any Christmas presents.

An action-packed schedule of 58 meetings will be making their way to your screens in 2025.

The Cab Direct Championship is back for a fourth successive year, with a whopping 40 live meetings.

Similiar to 2024, BSN will broadcast 27 regular season meetings, ALL the Cab Direct Championship play-offs and the BSN Series and KO Cup Grand Finals.

Not forgetting BSN will be the home of Cab Direct Championship Major Events such as the CLRC, Championship Pairs and the British Under-21 Final.

To supplement British Speedway’s official broadcast partners Discovery+/Eurosport, the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership have again agreed to show 18 live meetings on BSN.

These include 14 Premiership league meetings, along with 4 KO Cup including both legs of the Cup final.

BSN Director Martin Hunter said “2024 was a very successful year for all involved, supported greatly by our superb customers.

“To go into this next season with a very similar providing is brilliant.

“However, we will be doing plenty of work behind the scenes to improve our offering with some new features introduced for 2025 as well as our usual investment into more equipment. We never stop striving to improve what we offer.”

As previously announced, 2025 Season Passes will be frozen at the prices charged in 2024.

Redcar Speedway are excited to announce our 2024 Christmas Party on Saturday 7th December, to be held at the Ecco Arena in the Bears bar, Doors open at 6pm

We will be revealing the entire 2025 Redcar Agilia Bears team with at least 5 members in attendance, we also hope to bring some Middlesbrough Heat Floor Tigers News and some Club news. A Pie & Peas supper will be included and a race night to round the evening out

After carrying out a track inspection we have taken the decision to cancel tomorrows Silver Helmet meeting, todays heavy rain has caused to much damage and there’s no chance of drying it out before start time even if the rain stopped now.

Sadly we have decided not to rearrange the meeting this season due to a lack of rider availability. We are aware this leaves season ticket holders short a meeting so we will contact ST holders in due course with compensation options.

So that is the conclusion of our 2024 season on track, we will reflect on it in time, we still have a supports club social evening in the club house on Saturday night and of course the End of Season Awards Evening on Saturday 2nd of November before we turn our attentions to 2025.

Redcar heat leader Danny King is expecting a tough end of season examination as he makes his Teesside Silver Helmet debut tomorrow evening. The end of season spectacle see’s the Julie Lewis memorial meeting being intertwined with the Silver Helmet with tapes up at 7:30. 

The former British Champion is excited about the prospect of a tough examination of his form on his home track, “ It’s nice to have a go at such a prestigious meeting, I’ve never raced in this meeting before so I will be looking to stop Lewi (Kerr) winning three in a row! It’s a tough line-up, especially with no home track advantage but winning the meeting would be a great way to end the season.”

King, who has completed two years in Bears colours is relatively pleased with his 2024 campaign, “I’m happy with how I have returned from my hand injury, it was a nasty one which I may need to take a further look at once the season is over. However, I am happy with how I have performed since returning albeit I would’ve liked to do a little better.”

The popular Bears man has also revealed he would be open to a return to Redcar in 2025, “ I am interested in a return to Redcar and I feel I have more to offer. However, this is speedway and we will have to wait and see what happens.”

Meanwhile, the next generation of British Speedway lineup for the right to be crowned the 2024 Julie Lewis Memorial Champion and Gavin Parr is looking forward to the meeting, “ It’s an innovative way to end the season and I hope the fans are happy with how we are running 2 events in one night.”

The Bears boss is hopeful home favourite Jake Mulford can end his Redcar season on a high with a strong showing in the Julie Lewis Memorial, “ Jake’s had a brilliant season, he’s increased his average, even after spending 80% of last season injured, he’s done fantastic for us. It’s a shame Ben Trigger has a prior commitment and cannot make the meeting as it would’ve been nice to see them battle it out but I’m sure Jake will be looking for victory to sign off his 2024 at the ECCO Arena.”

Parr also praised the club’s promotion for entering into this year’s National Development League, “ Although I am not the most qualified to talk about the Middlesbrough Tigers, it has been a success for the club and the crowds have increased match on match which is really good for the club as a whole. The venture into the 3rd tier has worked really well and slotted in when the Bears have had gaps in the fixture list so it has been a real positive for Redcar speedway.”

Parr believes that some of the riders who are on show tomorrow will be auditioning for a Tigers team spot in 2025, “ Some of the riders involved will be wanting a team place for next season and tomorrow night is the perfect opportunity to show what they can do.”

The Silver Helmet line-up includes the Redcar skipper Charles Wright, Redcar asset Jason Edwards with Belle Vue’s Norick Blodorn making a rare appearance on second tier shale. Additionally, the aforementioned Lewi Kerr will be looking to make history and win his 3rd Silver Helmet on the bounce. Other names to watch out for include CLRC finalist Antti Vuolas and CLRC semi-finalist Drew Kemp. 

The Julie Lewis Memorial Meeting includes the aforementioned Jake Mulford, plus Tigers stars Danny Phillips, Kai Ward and Will Hocaniuk. Additionally, many spectators will be looking forward to seeing William Cairns on track as he makes another appearance at the ECCO Arena. The final three spots in the field are taken by Ace Pijper, Stene Pijper and Edinburgh’s Max Perry. 

The Julie Lewis memorial meeting will be an eight heat format with the top four riders qualifying for a winner takes all final. 

The Silver Helmet will be a 12 heat event with a last chance semi-final and a winner takes all final. Both meetings will take place together with two heats of Julie Lewis Memorial action being followed by three heats of Silver Helmet racing. 

Supporters are reminded that entry is £20 whilst season ticket holders can use their 2024 ticket for entry into this match. Finally, any supporters who are unable to attend the meeting are reminded that the fixture will be live streamed at www.redcar-speedway.tv
